Violet Mary Miller, age 97, of Lexington Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2022, after an extended illness. Violet is survived by her devoted grandson, Joe Ripley, whom she raised as her own, and his wife, Heather. In addition, Violet is survived by three granddaughters, Denise (Jay) McDonald, Peggy (Mike) Wilkerson, and Ronna Mangum; nine great-grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Phillips, Tess
(Paul) Previti, Taylor Angle, Jacob McDonald, Hailey McDonald, Ryan McDonald, Khalea Pointer, Dara (James) Hennessey, and Chris Christensen; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Davis; daughter-in-law, Gerrie (Lee) Mangum; seven nieces, Mary Ellen (Richard) Lecomte, Darlene (James) Mills,
Laurie Potter, Andrea Davis, Suzy Swagart, Patty (Jay) Gallagher, Leslie Blackwell; nephew, Lester Shutt, Jr.; and dear friends. Violet is predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob; her daughter, Carol Ripley; her parents, Dola and John Mattingly; her siblings, John and Shirley Mattingly; her cherished granddaughters, Laureen Angle and
Michelle Ripley; and her great-grandson Trey Angle. Violet was born in Washington, DC, and lived in Mt. Rainier, Maryland before she and her husband moved to Lexington Park. She worked for the federal government until she retired, including stints at the War Department during World War 2 and the NSA. Fiercely independent, Violet lived for her family. She loved collecting porcelain dolls, painting dishes, music, movies, and her Catholic faith. A celebration of Violet's life will be held at 10 am on October 16,
2022, at Fort Lincoln Chapel (3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland), with burial directly following at the Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
