What a beautiful and energetic soul! Marva and my oldest sister were classmates at Washington Irving High School . I remember her ! 

Sending loving prayers of comfort and peace to Marva's family and especially her beloved daughter Nora..  I will always treasure the precious memories of Marva and I walking to Kelly Miller school in the afternoon of our senior year in high school.  Marva and I were also  room-mates in SE Washington DC along with her cousin for a while.  We were both  working for the government and sometimes we had to catch the bus.    I remember when she bought her first car, a really small little Honda.   She had a lot of friends and loved to have fun.  . Her and Nora came out to Las Vegas to visit me and we had dinner at the Golden Nugget.  I had the chance to visit Marva a few years back while she was living in NE DC.    God bless you Nora and your family with love and peace always

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Marva.  I will miss her.  I can still remember meeting her for the first time back before the internet, the cell phone, twitter, social media or tic tok...we talked to each other and shared laughs in Norfolk Virginia when she and I served together in the Judge Advocate General's Corps in the Navy.  That was before anyone knew that JAG would be a TV show.  I was working in the defense department; she was working in the prosecution shop.   Every time I saw her she had a big smile on her face; she was always energetic and ready to go.  We had a good time discussing our cases.  She loved to talk about how she used to be able to run fast and how she loved running; she was a sprinter in her younger days.  She had that hungry look and a twinkle in her eye that let you know she was sort of kidding but at any moment she might slip on her running shoes and whip you. 

The greatest thing about Marva was that she was such a true and genuine person.  That’s why after over 30 years and seeing her infrequently over the years I still smile when I remember her voice.  I hope all her other friends and family will continue to hear her voice!  I know I will.  More importantly Marva always valued her friends and I hope we all keep a living memory of her.  

And to her beloved Nora...I wish you well in these difficult times; thank you for sharing Marva with us.

I only met Marva twice: once when Nora was about 2 and once at my father’s 85th birthday party. She has proven to be a woman who demonstrated the principle of unconditional love and acceptance. I used to tease my sister Sandy that Marva was her “psychiatrist” because she would listen, be supportive and offer discerning advice. Marva was able to be a friend even though she was suffering herself.
Marva is in a better place now where she can be uplifted like she was so good at doing for others.

I met Marva when we were in Navy JAG together in Norfolk…I was 26…Now I’m 62……She has been such a gift over these years.  I know in outward appearances we are different….hobbies or what we do in free time, different lately….But one thing my friendship with M has taught me….appearances, activities, etc aren’t the thing…. It’s the connection, real empathy, ability to listen and get it and care which M had 100%.
We met in Norfolk…We would swim together at lunchtime, the Navy was big on PT they called it. Then I transferred to Naples, Italy and she transferred to Pensacola, FL…We finished our tours and got back in touch when we were both back in the DC area…We occasionally got together but mostly it was phone… 
M was someone who could discern things about people and a situation with just hearing a little bit, we’d call each other for a “reality check.”  Didn’t matter what it was: Jobs, people, bosses, boyfriends, family…It was her caring and empathy.  She was always right there with me and supportive thru thick and thin….
Even when her own health problems picked up and in pain and tired…when we’d talk she’d always ask, “what’s going on with you?”….Asking about me always despite what she was going thru.
I was using a web site the other day hadn’t used in a while….Asked for password….I don’t know.  One you could set up a hint….”Best friend’s last name”….Typed in Daniel….Yep that worked.
Recently , prob ard Nora’s birthday we were reminiscing about when Nora was born.  Hot that year, May 31, 1991….Came up to Walter Reed later that day, her sister Catherine was there and brought her out, Marva said, “here she is.”  A beautiful baby with a full head of hair…We talked about that day and Nora being a beautiful baby and M said, “And now she’s taking good care of me.”
Nora, I know she loved you more than anything and thank you and Catherine for taking good care of her the last few years.
I’m thankful for the gift of having Marva as my friend….


A peaceful good night to the originator of the Witch Windelmeyer stories.  You have been loved, will be missed, and will never ever be forgotten.
