Dear McNair Family,
Just to share that I truly loved Ms Irene. I traveled with her and we often ate at the same table and took photos together of children on the every playground! I walked around with her as she purchased little gifts for all 20 or 30 of her students back home who she knew would never have the travel opportunities she enjoyed! Loved her spirit and sat near her in Sunday School every Sunday and Tuesday night Bible study at Metropolitan! So sad to know she is no longer among us! I just praise God for our time together! Last I talked to her she was having a hard time breathing but she laughed and talked anyway! I love her and Metropolitan will never be the same without her! Our travels will never be the same! I praise God for allowing our paths to cross! Know that she was truly loved!

To Sonya, David, Dexter and Terry:  My. prayers are with. you in the loss of your mother.  When I lived in Laurel, Maryland, she and I sat next to each other at 7:30 AM church services.  I also ate Sunday dinner with her, David, Mercedes, her brother and sister-in-law.  We also enjoyed going to Jerusalem in 2011 with Rev. Jesse Wood; and Australia and Fiji Islands with Rev. Jesse Wood in May 2019.  I am grateful to God she is in no more pain and with Jesus!  Love, Ednora Armour-Ohanmu of North Las Vegas, Nevada. 

    Thinking of Irene’s family today. She was always so welcoming when I came to visit with Larry and our sons, and continued to keep her door open after he passed. This meant the world to me to know that she truly cared. She continued to stay in touch and check in even though she had her own grief after his passing, I will never forget her support during that time. It was unwavering.  
  
  I also absolutely loved the conversations we had, I had learned things from her that I’ll never forget. She had a tremendous wealth of knowledge.  I will continue to share the memories I have of both Irene and Larry with our sons for as long as I am able. Praying for all of you today, and sending our love from NY. 

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Irene McNair.  I met Mrs. McNair in July 2007 when I became the principal of Garfield Elementary School.  She came to me and said that she would like to volunteer in the school.  Volunteer is not the word!  Mrs. McNair rejoined our staff.  She was there EACH AND EVERY DAY for during the school day, evening and weekend events.  Her patient care and love for the children was evident in her presence.  Rarely, absent—you would never know that she was a volunteer.  She epitomized TEAMWORK!  The last time that I saw her was at my retirement event.  You can see her pictured her with some of the other members of the Garfield team.

Graduation Ceremony of Granddaughter Khadijah from the Federal Police Academy.

Irene McNair was one of the most family-oriented persons I've ever known. We have lived across the street from her for nearly 40 years. Her brother's great nephew, the late Larry Freeland, whom she raised but who unfortunately passed about a year ago, was a friend of my younger son. She had been raising Larry's son, Jeremiah, who is now a computer science major at UDC. 
Over Christmas, I stopped by with a little gift. Three hours of enjoyable conversation later, I went home.  
Whenever I would see Irene, she always asked about my family, but especially my wife who has Alzheimer's. 
May the Lord welcome her to her heavenly home and bless her family and friends. 




















IRENE MCNAIR WAS AN ENTERTAINING LADY. I NOTICED HOW SHE LOVED TO HAVE FAMILY OVER ON SUN. I WOULD LET HER KNOW WHEN SOMETIMES SHE LEFT HER HAZARD LIGHTS ON HER CAR. SHE WOULD SAY THANK YOU I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT CARING NEIGHBORS LIKE US. I WOULD ALWAYS TRY TO LOOK OUT FOR HER.
