Pastor Betty G Bennett

Betty G. Bennett departed this life on June 18, 2020, in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Betty was born on January 7, 1938, in East Orange, NJ to Aubrey Thomas (1979) and Rebecca Brown (1997). The family lived in East Orange, NJ, Dumfries, VA, and then Youngs Village, in Fort Belvoir, VA. before settling in Washington, DC. Betty graduated high school in Bailey’s Crossroads, VA.

Betty met her soon to be husband Willie O. Bennett while living in Youngs Village, in Fort Belvoir, VA, the two were later united in matrimony on November 9, 1957 in her parent’s home on 4th Street, NW. Out of this union four beautiful children were born.

During their marriage she spent many occasions preparing meals for day trips the family would take, to keep the kids busy with the new adventures they would have. During the early years of the marriage Betty could be found spending time with her mother-in-law learning new recipes. These recipes would lead many to call and see what was being prepared for a holiday meal, so that they could stop by and get a plate. Her special dishes were chicken salad, shrimp salad, potato salad, sweet potato cobbler and minced barbecue to name a few. Betty was not only a mother to her children but to their friends, nieces and nephews and many others.

In 1970, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, then went on to attend Bible Way Church for her foundation and from there she then joined the Greater Pentecostal church. She worked at Washington McLaughlin Christian School where she was responsible for leading many of the teachers and children to salvation. This great love for souls and children led her to begin in home day care and Vacation Bible school in her basement on Jefferson street. A lot of the neighborhood children attended and some even learned to read under her leadership. She counseled many couples on how to build strong Christian based relationships and helped many young women to walk as Godly women.

In July 1995 she established the Undenominational Holy Mission of God to further spread the Word of God. Betty was a loving nurturing woman, who stood and lived by the Word of God. Her desire to see everyone find the Lord was paramount in her life. As such she always had an encouraging word and was a straight shooter and gave a word of correction when needed, just like Christ she corrected those she loved. Her gift of discernment was a key part of deliverance and guidance for many.

Betty is survived by her husband Willie O. Bennett, her children Alister Bennett (Nina), Maria Bailey (Michael), Kathy Bennett-Hill (Stephen), Willie S. Bennett Sr. (Naeemah), Brother Aubrey Thomas (Vera), Jack Thomas (Deceased) (Esta); Sisters, Joan Johnson (Oliver), Barbara Lewis (Joe), Martha Prescott (Louis Deceased), Belinda Thomas. Grandchildren Alister Bennett, Jr. (Rhonda), Willie S. Bennett, Jr. (Deceased), Dimitrius Bennett, Darnell Bennett, Brian Reid and great grandchildren Jelani, Kaylyn, Kendall, Lieutenant, Tylee, Keenan, Nathaniel, Khamari, Nyheem, A’Lonnie, and August; goddaughters, Tyesha, Kennedy and a host of family and friends.
