Steve W. Pomerantz, 63, of Concord, California, passed away on March 26, 2024, in his home. He was born on May 7, 1960, in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York. Steve was known for his wit, unique sense of humor, and dedication to making the world a better place. He had a passion for politics, sports, and sharing funny stories from the "old days."
Steve was a loving husband to Anne and a cherished father to Sarah/Kort Vanwert, Jonathan/Valerie Hernandez. He is also survived by his sister Sari/Klaus Gehr, and his nieces,Sophia/Tyler Dykstra, Abby DeLand, nephews, Matt/Laura Deland, Nate DeLand and grandchildren Brooklyn and Carter VanWert and Nathan, Haylee, Mavrick, Sophia and Willow Hernandez . Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Bea Pomerantz.
In his career, Steve worked for the Department of Commerce/NTIA, Pacific Telesis, as independent web developer, and at the University of California/Office of President as a programmer analyst. He also served as a senior software engineer at BusinessWire.
Outside of work, Steve was a diehard fan of New York sports teams - Mets and Giants! and the San Francisco Giants. He enjoyed family genealogy, dogs, reading "real" books and exploring for new experiences. Steve had an extensive knowledge of music from the 70s to the present, particularly enjoying Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones.
A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held on May 11, 2024, at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Best Friends Animal Society or a charity of your choice. The Brentwood Funeral Home in Brentwood, CA, is assisting with the funeral arrangements.
