Rega “Dale” Porter, Jr. was born on December 21, 1929 in Walla Walla, WA. Dale is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary JoAnn “Jody” Porter; Children Pali Porter, Alison Myers and Robert Porter (Hilda); Granddaughters Victoria Myers, Rega Porter and Rutilia Porter; Great Grandson Dominic McClure; Sister Patricia Lee and many other family and friends.
After high school, Dale served in the Army, with tours in Panama and Greenland. Dale graduated from Eastern Oregon College of Education in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. He and Jody were engaged in 1954 during their junior year in college. They were married August 7, 1955 and began teaching in Mapleton, OR. They later moved to Pittsburg, CA where he first taught sixth grade. Upon completion of his Master’s Degree in Counseling, he taught and counseled at the Junior High level for 30+ years.
Dale enjoyed family time, golfing, playing cards and was a lifetime avid reader. Dale and Jody enjoyed their retirement traveling the World, with multiple cruises and tours globally. Their favorite places to visit were Hawaii and London. Continuing their adventurous spirit, they relocated to Apache Junction, AZ in 2005. They returned home to the Bay Area last spring and set up residence at Cypress Meadows in Antioch.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 10th at 11am at Brentwood Funeral Home, 839 First Street, Brentwood, CA 94513. Reception to follow.
