Mats is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; his son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Melissa; granddaughter, Aleksandra; grandsons, Brayden and Brody; and his brother, Ulf. Mats was preceded in death by his sister, Barbro in Sweden. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Europe, Africa and the United States.
Mats was born in Stockholm, Sweden to Gustav and Sigrid Arklnd on June 2, 1942. He was the middle child between his sister, Barbro and his brother, Ulf.
Mats served in the Swedish Armed Forces, attached to the United Nations Forces. He saw combat in Cypress and the (Belgian) Congo. After his military service, Mats immigrated to the United States and later became a U.S. Citizen.
Mats spent 35 years employed by Wells Fargo Bank, starting as a Management Trainee and retiring as Senior Vice President. He was very proud of his banking career and still had many friends that he met as co-workers.
Mats was very close to his only son, Michael, and was extremely proud of the man he had become. Mats was an athlete as a teenager, excelling in Ice Hockey in Sweden. As an adult, he loved playing golf and worked out in the gym three times a week until shortly before he died.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for December 18 at 11:00, at Brentwood Funeral Home, in Brentwood CA. All are welcome to attend and share in Mats’ life story. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in his name.
