Anthony Maurice Webb

Anthony “Tony” Maurice Webb, Major (U.S. Army Retired), 74, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 20, 2023. He was born in Pittsburg, CA on May 13, 1949, to Lee and Julia Gladys (Boatright) Webb. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ray Webb, and son Tony Poor. He leaves behind 2 brothers, Gary (Sherry) Webb of Chattanooga, TN and Ron Webb of Amarillo, TX, his wife, Laura Webb, children James (Ginny) Webb of Birmingham, AL, Leslie (Jonathan) Parish of Auburn, AL, Justin (Amy) Webb of Acworth, GA, Jennifer (Jason) Bishop of Hoschton, GA, and Christina (Vignesh) Rama of Bethel Island, CA, along with 11 grandchildren, Banks, Shepp, Ford, Leighton, Logan, Stella, Willis, Carter, Daine, Lauren, and Emma.

Tony graduated from Rio Linda High School in Rio Linda, CA in 1967. He attended 15 different schools in his 12 years of schooling. His family moved often throughout California and Oklahoma, working together picking cotton, prunes, tomatoes, and apples. In 1968, he entered the U.S. Air Force and was selected and trained as a helicopter mechanic at Sheppard AFB, Texas. He initially served at Edwards AFB, and was later assigned to Hickam AFB, Hawaii for four years, where he participated in shipboard operations at Pearl Harbor with a Special Operations unit, “Catch a Falling Star,” to retrieve satellites and search and rescue in the Pacific Ocean. Attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, Tony’s last assignment in the Air Force was to Davis Monthan AFB, Arizona, in the 11th Tactical Drone Squadron on CH-3E helicopters, catching drones mid-air at 10 thousand feet. After 750 Flight Hours and seven years of serving, he received an Honorable Discharge.

Tony then attended the University of Georgia graduating in 1977 as a Distinguished Military Student and was selected to participate in the Army Ranger School in 1976, receiving the Ranger Tab. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and assigned to the Armored (Branch) Cavalry. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron 7th Cavalry, Schweinfurt, West Germany, to patrol the East German Border at the Coburg Sector, FRG and served as the Mortar and Cavalry Platoon Leader, Troop Executive Officer, S3-Air and Squadron Motor Officer. During the remainder of his years in the U.S. Army, he served across the United States and Germany, including in the 2nd Armored Division, Ft. Hood, Texas, as Assistant G3 Operations officer; the 2nd Armored Brigade, 1/67 Armor Battalion as the Battalion Maintenance Officer and the Headquarters Company Commander; the 2nd Armored Brigade Logistics officer, S4; the Ordinance School for Maintenance in Aberdeen, Maryland; a Supply Instructor for the Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky; the S3 Operations Officer for the 5/15th Cavalry training Cavalry Scouts; the 1st Armored Training Brigades S1 Adjutant to the Brigade Commander; and dual-branched to the Ordinance Branch (Maintenance) and Armor Branches. Tony’s last assignment in the Army was as the Material Management Director of Class IX (9) repair parts for V Corps (5th) Europe in Wiesbaden, Germany. Tony retired from the military as a Major in 1993 at Fort McPherson, GA and moved to Gwinnett County, GA. His decorations in the Army included the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf, and the Army Achievement Medal. He was an expert marksman on all Army battalion/squadron level weapons systems.

Prior to retiring from the Army, Tony received his MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1988. After retiring from the Army, Tony was a whole service stockbroker with Edwards Jones for 15 years in Snellville, GA. In the following years, he spent time pursuing various interests, including acting in 60 plus stage plays, playing Santa Claus, serving as President of the Snellville Commerce Club from 1994 to 2004, and the Gwinnett County Georgia GOP District 4 Chairman for three years. He moved to Bethel Island, CA, in January 2022 and was a member of Brentwood Community United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. He was also the District 9 Commander (Contra Costa County, CA) and proud member of American Legion Post 202 and a member of the Brentwood Lions Club.

Tony never met a stranger and loved making new friends and sharing many stories everywhere he went. He was a proud veteran, full of life, accomplishing so much. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. There will be a visitation at the Brentwood Legion Hall, Post 202 (757 First St. Brentwood, CA) on January 23, 2024, from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. The Celebration of Life service will be officiated by American Legion Chaplains Roger Cocksedge and Marty Leach, accompanied by Pastor Hyesung Lee, and held at Brentwood Community UMC (809 Second St. Brentwood, CA) at 2:00 pm on January 23, 2024. A Military Honors and burial service will be held the following day on January 24, 2024, from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm, at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (5810 Midway Rd. Dixon, CA). Arrive by 11:00 am to make sure you are guided to the correct lane for Tony’s procession to the place of honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brentwood Community UMC or American Legion Post 202.
