Lucille Evelyn (Anderson) Ketchum was born at the family farmhouse, December 6, 1927 in Benson County, town of Brinsmade in North Dakota to Arthur Victor Anderson ( 1st generation Swede in America) and Ella Regina (Strand) Anderson (1st generation Norwegian in America). She was number four of eight children, Helen, Russell, Richard, Lucille, Dolores, Arlene, Luella and Victor. Lucille was baptized in the Lutheran Church on April 22nd 1928 and in later years Confirmed. Life on the farm meant having to do a lot of chores and no modern conveniences. She received her Diploma for completing 8th grade from North Dakota Schools, Benson County. Around the age of 15 alone came out by train to live with her sister Helen and her husband Oris Nelson who was in the Navy and their three children. It was the beginning of WWII and the shipyard in Bremerton was hiring. She worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for a short time as a tool supplier for the workers. Later she found a job working for Bill Cook in Bremerton at The Pantry Shelf as a waitress and that is where she met Donald when he stopped in for pie and coffee on his way to work. They were married September 19th 1947 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 11th and Veneta, Bremerton, WA. They had two children, Larry Donald and Diane Lynn. Donald continued to work in the shipyard, and Lucille stayed home and took care of the house and children. After Donald passed away Lucille moved in with her daughter Diane and remained with her until the day of her passing on May 21st 2018 at the age of 90.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Ketchum of Bremerton, WA on August 22nd 2004, just one month shy of their 57th wedding anniversary; son, Larry Ketchum of Olalla, WA at the age of 47 as a result of a hyper-lite plane crash on May 23rd 1994; parents, Art and Ella (Strand) Anderson of Leeds, ND; sisters, Helen (Oris) Nelson of Puyallup, WA, and Dolores (Ernie) Elverud of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Russell Anderson; grandson, Hezekiah Dathan Hamre only 24 days old of Oregon.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Ketchum) Baillargeon of Lakebay, WA; granddaughters, Kareana (Jason) Pettit of Benton City, WA and Katie (Allen) Woodard of Hagerstown, MD; gandsons, Kenny Hamre of Shelton, WA and Brian Hamre of Lakebay, WA; great-granddaughters; Emmily McColloch, Sara McColloch, Allyssa Hamre and Abbey Woodard.
