Charles, affectionately know as Pug, was born in Ames Iowa on March 5th, 1930. He attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland, serving in the Navy for 24 years, achieving the rank of Captain. Pug served on the USS Medregal and the USS Bream, both diesel submarines. The last segment of his Naval career was as second in command of the Bremerton Washington Naval Base PSNS. After retiring from the Navy, he worked in real estate, Tacoma Boat and later for King Fahd in Saudi Arabia. He was an avid hunter, an outdoors enthusiast, loved skiing, mushroom hunting and tinkering in his greenhouse. He loved living In Washington State and truly thought of it as God’s country. He is survived by his children, Kerry (“Pete”) Peterson, Maureen Thompson, Kathleen Lackman, Erin (“Carson”) Johnson, Shannon (Jesse) Blas, Charlie (Melanie) McCarty as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two of his sons-in-law, Edwin Lackman and Mark Thompson, grandson Kevin Lackman, great granddaughter Olivia Peterson, and his beloved pugs, Pug’s Pug and Pug’s Puff.
