Born November 30, 1951, to Stella (nee Frenette) and Everard Wingate of Brantford, predeceased by her parents and her siblings Edward, Herbert and Catherine. Sue is survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nephews.
Sue was the Sacristan and worked as the Custodian at St. Basil’s Church in Brantford, being part of its faith community for over four decades. Her love and devotion to God led her to the service of others. She was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector in the Church, an active member of The Legion of Mary, a member of The Companions of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Hamilton, a member of St Basil’s Catholic Woman’s League, a Counsellor for Birthright Brantford as well as a member of the Brantford Jail Prison Ministry before it closed. Sue through her acts of service showed us the stunning power of simple humility and unconquerable faith. She worked hard her whole life spending over twenty years working at Corningware Canada. She was an extraordinary woman.
In addition to her religious life, Sue was a lifelong animal lover. She quietly filled her home with pets that other people could no longer care for, giving them unconditional love and making them part of her family. Growing up in the County, Sue loved the land and its beauty often spending any spare time roaming its parts. She cherished her Church life, her pets, her family, her friends and her loving Mother. Everything she did, she did for others. She will be greatly missed by her St. Basil’s family and all those in our community who have experienced her acts of kindness and love.
Visitations will be Thursday August 25th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home (96 West St., Brantford). Rosary will be said at 7:30pm by Reverend Al McMillan.
Please join us to celebrate her life and devotion by attending her Funeral Mass at St. Basil’s Church (50 Palace St., Brantford) on Friday, August 26th at 10:00 am, interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Paris.
