The death of Stuart Day occurred peacefully at his home in Vanessa ON on June 2, 2010 surrounded by family and friends. Stuart is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Evelyne (Adair) Day, his daughter Linda Catt (Gerald), seven grandchildren Larren Buckley (Tracey), Lori Buckley (Dave), Joel Buckley (Tracy), Vicki Gorham (Danny), Judy Gorham, Karen Gorham and Glendon Gorham, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Kenneth and Alma and one daughter Lorna Louise Gorham in 2006. Born in Saint John NB in 1911, he was the son of the late William J. and Jane (McQuaid) Day. During World War II he served Overseas for two years with the R.C.O.C. as a Staff Sergeant. After the War he was employed by the Veterans Land Act until retirement in 1974. A member of the Knights of Pythias, he received his 50-year certificate in 1971. Stuart was a member of the Black River United Church, an elder for many years and also served on the Board of Stewards. He assisted in the founding of the Sea View Community Club and was a Life Member. He moved with his wife Evelyne and daughters Linda and Lorna to Gardners Creek NB in 1952 where he lived most of his married life, adapting very well to the country. After retirement he became a gifted craftsman and made many birdhouses, candle holders, lawn ornaments, etc. Family and friends will be received at “THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL” on Thursday June 10th, from 1:00 pm. to 2:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm. followed by a reception in the Carriage House. Interment will be held at a later date at the Black River Cemetery NB.
