Rose was born to the late Ceferino Delgado Garcia and Francisca Torres Gonzalez on April 28, 1920 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She grew up happily on a farm with nine brothers and sisters who all predeceased her. She married the late Alfred R. Menanteaux in 1945 and they lived together for 40 years in New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. Widowed, Rose moved to Florida to spend her sunset years with her beloved sister, Virginia.
Rose loved to be around people and have a good time. Whether visiting with relatives, attending plays with her husband, speed walking in the park, or playing bingo, she had a zest for life in her younger years. She excelled in retail fashion sales for S. Kline on the Square in New Jersey and Marshall Fields of Chicago where she was named “Employee of the Year” at the River Oaks store. She knew fashion from the inside out, creating wonderful garments by hand for her family. Her work life never overshadowed her love of family. A consummate mother and homemaker, nothing pleased her more than creating a wonderful meal and watching the great pleasure it gave her husband, children and extended family. She worked hard to create a happy family and lived at its heart.
Rose had an unwavering faith in God. She was a long time member of the St. Jude Society and a continuous Catholic congregant at churches in New Jersey, Illinois and Florida. She was always ready and willing to make items for church bazaars and bake sales.
Rose is survived by daughters Ruth and Cynthia and her loving son Bobby and his wife Lori. Grandchildren Noyan, Didi, Ben and Lauren brought her great pleasure as did great grand daughter, Khloe.
Her nieces, Carmen Dalia and Awilda lovingly cared for her during her years in Florida. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Rose their sincerest gratitude.
Public visitation will be on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Boulevard in Brandon at 2 p.m. This will be followed by a religious service at 3 p.m. and a 4 o’clock internment at the Hillsboro Memorial Gardens in Brandon.
“…Yet shall I not be forgotten / But continue that life in the thoughts and deeds / Of those I have loved.”
