SMITH, Marian Elizabeth Shupe, 89, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on December 8, 2017. As a life-long Tampa resident, Mrs. Smith graduated from Hillsborough High School and was employed at Thatcher Glass Manufacturing until her retirement. She was an active member of the Belmont Baptist Church in Temple Terrace where she taught Sunday School and participated in many church community and service programs. Marion was known for her love of God, family and service to others. She was a strong woman of faith with a “servants heart” whose character was exemplified through her humility, grace, kindness and dedication shown to serving others. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Jim Brown Smith; son, Raymond Lee Cothron; parents, Harrison W. Shupe and Julia Elizabeth Shupe and eight siblings all of Tampa: Vivian Bohannan, Evelyn Fales, Beatrice Doyle, Bertha Lassiter, Harrison W. Shupe, Jr., Eldon Shupe, Jack Shupe and Raymond Earl Shupe. Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving children, George Anderson Cothron, Jr. , James Larry Cothron, Stephen Michael (Dorothy) Cothron, Gary Douglas Cothron, Sharon Cothron Daniel (Gregory), Karen Cothron Diemert (Patrick), Sandra Cothron Gummo, Beverly Cothron Valiente (Jorge); grandchildren, Angela Griner, Stephen Cothron Jr., Stephanie Burge, Gary Cothron, Jr., Dean Sims, Jr., Ashley Sims, Nicholas Cabina, Danielle Sims-Dan, Kristin Sims, Vanessa Valiente, Tiffney Ma, Christiaani Valiente, Thomas Sims III; great-grandchildren, Kristyn Cothron, Stephan Cothron III, Christopher Bailey, Emma Burge, Clinton Cothron, Chase Cothron, Clyde Cabina and Mila Ma; great-great-grandchildren, Caleb Johnston and Abel Bennett; sister, Winnifred Wacaser; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, Florida. Entombment will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 U.S. Highway 301 North, Thonotosassa, Florida. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
