Mary was born on May 7th 1947 to Maria Valencia Medina and Francisco Acevedo in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She graduated from Dr Pila High school in Ponce in 1965.
After graduating, she moved to New Jersey, then California. She landed her first job at Hughes Aircraft as a technician.
In 1970, she met Allen Stephens III in Los Angeles California, and they wed in 1971, going on to have two children, Sharleene de la Torre and Allen Stephens IV.
After twenty years in California, she then moved to Miami Florida where she worked for FedEx.
In Miami, always optimistic, she bought her first home and was actively involved in the Holy Family Catholic Church as a passionate CCD teacher.
She retired from FedEx after 21 years and was very proud of the fact she never called out sick or was late. That’s how responsible she was. Mary first moved to Destin, then Riverview Florida to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She spent her time traveling and visiting with friends and family, gardening, novelas, crossword puzzles, praying, studying the bible and participating in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Mary was predeceased by her mother Maria Valencia, father Francisco “Paco” Acevedo and brother Tito. She is survived by her son Allen Stephens IV and daughter Sharleene de la Torre. She is also survived by her sisters Maritza, Lourdes, brothers Junior, Negro, Kimpa and Jerry.
Mary lived a lifelong devotion to Jesus and her children. She impacted everyone she met, readily giving a helping hand to family, friends and strangers. She will be remembered and cherished for her soul of kindness, compassion, generosity, joy, and humor. She is greatly loved and deeply missed!
