Mary was born on February 12, 1944 to the late Albert and Dorothy (Black) Davenport. Mary dedicated herself to serving her community in various capacities. She was a valued member of the Branchville Planning Board and served as the Secretary for the Hampton Township Building Department for an impressive 25 years. Additionally, she devoted nine years of her life as a council member for Branchville, working tirelessly to improve the lives of its residents.
Mary was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star NJ, where she found camaraderie and a sense of community. Together with her husband, John, Mary owned and operated Johnny Smoke Shop and Johnny Home News in Branchville, where they were beloved fixtures in the community.
The beloved wife to the late John Charles Whitesell, Sr. (Cassandra), Mary is survived by her son, John Charles Whitesell, Jr; her granddaughter, Emma Whitesell and many loving nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and brother, Mary was predeceased by her brother, Leo C. Davenport.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St, Branchville, NJ. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Branchville Cemetery.
