Mary Ann was born in Linden, New Jersey on January 2, 1942 to the late Anthony and Mary Pezdirc. Mary Ann was a long time resident of Scotch Plains, New Jersey before moving to Sussex County in 1993, retiring in Culver’s Lake in Branchville, New Jersey. Prior to her retirement, she worked at Scotch Plains Town Hall in the Tax Assessor’s office. Mary Ann was the owner and operator of The Layton Hotel with her late husband and her children from 1993-2004.
She enjoyed an active lifestyle of many clubs and church activities to occupy her time.
She served as the Vice President of the Women’s Club at Culver Lake. She was the coordinator of various activities and many summer programs at the clubhouse. Mary Ann had many cherished friendships at the lake up until the time of her passing. She was an avid antique collector and enjoyed traveling to auctions to add collectibles to her treasures. However, most of all, Mary Ann cherished spending time with her family and friends.
She was the beloved wife of 49 years to the late Frank Squashic. Mary Ann is survived by her children, Christopher Squashic and his fiancé Shari Reffi, Maria Hoelderlin and her husband, Peter and Steven Squashic and his wife, Christine. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren whom she adored, Alexis (Eduardo), Nikki, Zoe, Nicholas, Julia, Olivia and Sophia and two loving nephews, Bob (Kelley) and David (Nanette). Along with her parents and husband, her sister, Dorothy Cole, predeceased Mary Ann.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville, NJ 07826. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, 209 US-206, Branchville, NJ 07826. Interment to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ
