We are so saddened to hear of Mario’s passing. We would  see him on his daily walks and if we were outside he always stopped to say hello. He told me that my father was his lawyer when he lived in Welland. Mario was a kind and gentle soul. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

My wife Sharon and I were very saddened to hear of Vittorio's passing. He was always a kind and caring person along with his brothers at Mario's when we and the kids had our hair done there. Victor always had a kind word, gesture, suggestion or anything that just always seemed to make you feel good. Just a tremendous fellow. 
But he was always like that, I remember when we were kids his parents and mine had a close connection and he would bring them over for visits when they couldn't get around too well.

I was so upset and shocked to open the Brampton news today and learn that Mario has passed away. What a loss for the world. He was one of the kindest men I have ever met, along with his brother Sam. I remember him sitting down in the waiting area of his salon to comfort me during a sad time in my life. He shared stories and prayers with me and he made me feel so special.  My husband and I were also so surprised to return from our son's wedding 18 years ago to two messages of congratulation. 1Onefrom Mario and the other from his brother Sam. 
My stylist Umberto always shared kind, positive words about his love of working with Mario. When Francesco, Umberto's son, open his own salon 3 years ago, Umberto instructed him to run it MARIO style. Which meant kindness and respect for his customers and stylists. I will truly miss Mario. Condolences to the family he was very proud of.

My family and I will greatly miss Mario. For thirty years I grew up with my parents as neighbors to Mario and Mickey. Eventually my own family (husband and son) got to know and love Mario as well. We have such fond memories of him always wearing a warm and welcoming smile. Whenever we would be outside from visiting my parents, Mario would walk across the street to greet us and ask how we were and wished us well. When my husband and I bought our first home Mario gifted us a ‘special plant’ and gave my husband seeds to his amazing tomatoes and beans, to which we started our first garden now two years. These are strong seeds and we will continue to plant and re-plant them every year while thinking of Mario. Our sincerest condolences to Mickey and family. 

Geoff and I give our deepest condolences  to Mario's Family. We knew him from the old Bramalea days on Avondale. Later he was a great supporter to me when I was on Council. He was always an encouraging and unwavering supporter. I was flattered because he was so involved with the Community and knew the workings of his City. We will miss him. A Bramalea icon is gone.       We are very sad to hear about  Mario's passing.  He was our neighbour of 15 years and we had become friends.  He always took care of the Rose bush at the side of our house and made it look beautiful!  Always pleasant and regularly walking everywhere...he would stop and chat when the opportunity arose.  His glowing smile was so genuine and made you feel much better as your spirits were always lifted after chatting with Mario.  A very caring and decent human being.  We will really miss him. Devastating loss to the community and neighbourhood as I passed Mario often on his daily walks and always took the time to converse and ask me how I was ... I called him Santa Claus as he was always giving of his time and thought for others. He will be truly missed I wish we could’ve walked and talked one last time....


So sorry to hear of Mario’s passing on Christmas Day. We moved into the neighborhood in 1994 when I was just a kid, and  Mario would always greet me with a kind hello on his daily walks, right up until the very end.  The neighborhood won’t be the same without him.

Uncle Mario was a very loving man. I remember every time we'd visit the shop, he would great us with a big, warm HELLO! He'd ask us how we were doing, then he would let us pick a lollipop from behind the counter. He would also send us home with a few coins and told us to put it in our piggy banks. We did not see him very often, but when we did, it was always a treat. He was always so joyful and generous, and he will definitely be missed.

We are going to miss you dearly!
I was a quiet, shy kid but I always felt proud to be a Cicione. Growing up in Bramalea, everyone knew who Uncle Mario was!  Many of us had you to thank for giving us our first job at Mario’s of Bramalea.  You had an incredible work ethic that you instilled in everyone who worked for you.  We were never allowed to sit because there was always something else that could be done. No wonder you were such a successful businessman!  

You always had a big smile on your face and open arms.  Everyone loved you for this.  You were one of the most kind and generous people I ever knew. You would often have a small gift for the kids to put into their piggy bank and every once in a while you put a bill into my hand and told me to go buy pizza for the kids.  Oh how you loved children...and they loved you! You were always so interested in knowing how Alena and Ryan were doing.  Family was the most important thing to you!  Family first was your motto. What a great thing to be remembered for!  

It gives me comfort knowing that you have been reunited with your parents, Uncle Sam, and with my beloved Ivan.  Ivan always liked and respected you.  Please take care of him for me until we all meet again.

I am sick at heart when I think of your (and all our) loss with this gentleman's death. I am going to repeat, and I mean repeat because all the Cicione and extended family must have heard this more than once, "Mr. Schock, you know what I tell all my friends and family?"
"Not, sure Mr. Cicione, maybe I have."
"I tell everyone, Mr. Schock tells me if the school was filled with Cicione kids we would have no problems. That's what he told me."
It's true too. I have met hundreds and hundreds of young people and the Cicione kids were standouts. Good-natured, polite, hard-working, community-minded. And Mario was along with others in that wonderful family the reason. The best that humanity has to offer, and we have lost another fine one.

Our Hearts are saddened to hear of the passing of Mario.   My Mom, Stella, started working with Mario in 1975, isn’t that crazy.   Mario, Sam and Philip were like uncles to my sister, brother and I.  We always felt like “part of the family”.  
Most memories of Mario though are when I called my mom at work.   Mario would answer and say “ahhh your mom is busy, can she call you back?” I would reply “ sure, please, ask her to call home” and Mario would say “wait I call her ok, Stellllaaa”.   Mario would always make me smile because it was always family first above anything and still was the most ethical business Man.
Mario’s family and garden were everything to him.  Summer was his favorite time and he loved his salads at his desk, all fresh from the garden.   
My Mom had so many great stories working with Mario, Sam and Philip for all those years, 35+years.  We had so many laughs listening and even better when we were present for the stories. 
Funny not too long ago I asked my mom if she heard from Mario or Philip and she said “no, but I’m going to call Mario for his birthday on New Year’s Day :( 
Mario’s thoughtfulness and Kindness will never be forgotten and he will always be remembered and talked about often.

Every time I saw uncle Mario (I really thought that was his real name) he would ask me “Are you working?” As I got older, I witnessed how much he loved working and the passion he had for his work. When I was young, I was lucky to work at the shop with my uncle Mario and my father (Sam).  At the shop, he had a talent for conversation and would speak with people passing by, who would often later become clients.  My uncle was a true entrepreneur, a great sales man and if you asked him how he became successful he would say, “having a relationship with others, loving them and respecting them”. Now I know why he always asked me “Are you working?”

He was a family man and never missed a birthday or celebration. He loved my family very much and always showed us how much he cared.  He will never be forgotten and will always have a special place in my heart.

My condolences to the Cicione family. I started going to Mario's in the late 70's early 80's and was alway made to feel like family by Mario, Sam and Tony.  One early memory I had of Mario was when he gave me a gift of a hairbrush which I  had for years. He was such a gentle man.




This has been a year of rollercoaster events and emotions, and I am very grateful to be able to share that even in the worst of times....... there is the best of times.
Lifelong memories of the very dear Cicione Family, nearly seventy years ago I was privileged to meet Mario’s young brother Philip as a haircutting apprentice in Willowdale Ontario, we became instant friends. Phil often mentioned to his customers “this guy is one of my longest customers” (67 years). Our friendship expanded into meeting The Late Beniamino father of the Cicione boys (in the garden).  Invited to many family functions, weddings, christenings, birthday and just fellowshipping with a coffee at the shop.
Mario’s dedication and “family first” was his trademark.
Mario was the ‘Go to guy’ for guidance, his involvement in the community and Italian Club was his passion oh yes some would claim his first passion was his love for soccer watching as many games as possible at the club. 
He never forgot his ‘Homeland Italy’ vacationing and bringing backstories to share relating to his boyhood.

Victor was a 'larger than life' fellow Italian. He was a warm, generous, and gregarious man who loved his faith, family, and heritage. Victor lived by the Christian code of 'doing unto others' and therefore, put the needs of his family and friends first. Whenever we were in his presence, we knew we had his undivided attention, that he was truly interested in us, and that should we need help, he would be there for us. Victor's death is a great loss to his wife, children, and grandchildren as well as his brothers and their families. However, his passing also leaves an emptiness in his community of extended relatives, such as myself, and his many, many friends. While we will miss him, we will never forget him. My Uncle was a one of kind person,  who always had a smile on his face. My Uncle was good company and always enjoyed his pasta and wine too.  He was a great Uncle that really enjoyed the love around the whole world, including his brothers and extended family.

Such sad news.  Mario’s presence on our street will be sorely missed.  He was so thoughtful.  Early in the spring he left a sprig of forsythia in one of my planters.  It cheered me up immensely on a day when I felt especially “down” because of the pandemic.  Rest In Peace Mario.  I’ll miss your cheerful greeting.

I was a customer of Mario's for 33 years, until he sold the business at Bramalea City Centre.  I continued to see him when he helped his son Gino in his business, GM Hair Design.  Mario always greeted me with a smile. and when I was leaving there was always a lollipop for my grandchildren.  I considered Mario a friend and will miss his friendly greetings and thoughtfulness.🙏

Sometimes in life there is a person who leaves an impact on your heart and brings joy to your soul. Mario was that man. He was always ready to greet both friends, clients and strangers with a ready smile, and his smile was so genuine that his eyes would twinkle. As a 16 year old, with my first broken heart.. I was passing by his salon on my way home from the mall. He called out to me and asked me why I looked so sad. I stopped to chat and told him about the boy, and the break up. He ushered me into the salon and said he was giving me a beautiful new haircut. I thanked him but told him I didn’t have any money. He said “I don’t want your money, I just want to see you happy and smiling.” That was the amazing type of person he was. I am 54 years old, and I have never forgotten that day, and how he eased my first broken heart with his kindness and generosity. My deepest condolences to the entire Cicione family. He will be missed, and remembered forever ❤️ Rest in Paradise Mario 🙏

He was a great man, with a great heart for all the people,morè over for old  ones, giving always his help to everybody needs  It, and he had and still has ,many friends in the world. We never forget you: Salvatore and EMMA Iannelli from LAMEZIA Terme (Italia).

I remember getting my hair cut at the mall by him, Mario was always so sweet, I would make a mad dash to “the shop”  as soon as I entered into the mall, I remember stopping in just to say hi even when we weren’t getting a hair cut!!! My deepest condolences to the family, he is definitely a LEGEND!!!!!

We are saddened to hear the news of Mario’s passing. So many memories, so many good times. We are thankful that Tony was able to speak to him when he came home from the hospital. Our condolences to Micky, Angie, Anthony and Gino and to all of your family

The news of the loss of your Dad has been a tremendous shock to me!  I am still trying to come to terms with it.  If there ever was a gentleman, it was he.  The example your Dad set for his children and grandchildren, and everyone who knew him, will continue to influence and inspire.

Since I started working closely with the family in "the Shop" in the early 80s, Mario has had a special place in my heart. I express my deepest condolences to his family, and his memory will live on for years to come. 

Mario you were a giant of a man for me and for the entire family. I remember how many hours you worked in Welland when we were young. You worked so hard. You were so generous to everyone your entire life. Words cannot express how much you are going to be missed.

Frank & I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Mario on Christmas Day. We were his neighbours for 30 years and enjoyed the occasional wine & cheese lunches with Mickey & Mario over the years. We used to have a pet rabbit named Floyd and Mario would throw carrots tops over the fence for him when he was busy gardening. He had a wonderful garden! Mario would call me Shirley (our daughter) and call Shirley, Lorraine. He was a very kind and generous man … he will be missed by all who knew him. We send our very sincere condolences to Mickey & all of his family and wish them well in the new year.

To my Beloved Godfather,

My heart is heavy today.  Thank you for being the BEST Godfather a girl may have.  You taught me how to be charismatic, to be humble, to be kind, to be my authentic self, to be respectful, to be happy, to never forget a birthday, anyone’s birthday, to be positive, to love life and how to waltz.  I observed simply by being in your presence, in your light.  Truthfully, I never caught on to the waltz even though you patiently went through the steps numerous times as we twirled around the dance floor during the numerous weddings we attended.  You left steep footprints in all those who were fortunate to have crossed your path and left us your beautiful roses.  I am very grateful to you, my beloved Godfather, to everything you taught me, instilled in me, and wonderful and fond memories.  I am very fortunate I had the opportunity to tell you how much I loved you a few weeks ago.  I am very grateful to you and to my Godmother.  I will never forget you, Zio.  Riposare In Pace.  We will meet again.

I started having my hair done at Mario's in the late 1980s. I was thrilled when he started helping Gino out when Mario's closed 10 years ago. I always loved his big smile and kindness towards me. He will be greatly missed.
