Loving father of Graham (Leslie) and Gail (Bill) Cherished Grampy of Amanda, Victoria, Madeleine and Mikayla. Predeceased by sisters Dolly and Vicky, and brothers Victor, Bert, Stan and Reg.
He will be greatly missed by all. With special thanks to the entire staff of Extendicare Brampton Heartlake Wing for their tireless love and care for the past six months.
Leonard (Len) was born in London, England, the youngest of 7 siblings. At the tender age of 17 he followed in his older brothers’ footsteps and joined the Royal Navy. Len was a decorated Navy veteran who served as an ASDICS operator in anti-submarine duty protecting convoys in the North Atlantic and over to Murmansk. He served on HMS Starling, HMS Berwick and HMS Glasgow. At war’s end, he joined the Merchant Marine and saw further adventures around the globe. He had a very adventurous spirit and enjoyed fixing and riding motorcycles around England. After they met, mom used to ride on the back of his bike or, later, in his sidecar. They decided to emigrate to Canada in 1957 to raise their young family, first settling at Toronto Island, before finally settling in Bramalea in 1960 and joining Air Canada. He and his family enjoyed many years of love and fun, with family adventures to England, the Caribbean, and Hawaii.
Celebrations of Life will take place at Toronto Island and at Victoria, British Columbia.
Donations in Leonard’s memory can be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada .
