He is survived by his loving wife, Marie, 3 stepchildren, Donna (Steve) Gibson, Kim (Rich) Magaldi, Jeff (Shayla) Lengel, 9 step grandchildren, Kristi (Matt) Carr, R.J. Magaldi, Kelli Gibson, Bryan Magaldi, Colby Lengel, Levi Lengel, Logan Goodman, Cade Lengel, and Reed Lengel, 2 brothers, William (Dorothy) Pontious and Neil (Carol) Pontious, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the US Halford destroyer during World War II. In the sixties, he moved to Bradenton and was co-owner of Sunshine Mowers, manufacturer of the EZ-roll high wheel mower and the 3-wheel adult trike. Upon retiring in the 1970's, he took up the hobby of restoring antique cars, and was a member of the Vintage Wheels of Bradenton, Marc Club of Sarasota, and Antique Auto Club of America in Ontelawnee, PA.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bradenton, and The Elks Club of Manatee County.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6311 3rd Avenue W., Bradenton, Florida, with a reception immediately following. A Committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Rotunda, Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice or Redeemer Lutheran Church
