Thomas Jack Herman passed away peacefully among family on December 2, 2019. He was born March 07, 1927 to Arthur and Agnes (Palmer) Herman. He grew up in Kalamazoo, MI, attending St. Augustine Catholic Church and School. Three brothers proceeded him in death, Joseph, Paul and Robert. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School after honorable discharged from the United States Navy, serving the Pacific in WWII on transport ship LST 268.
Tom went to Parson Business School where he met the love of his life, Margaret Oswalt, in 1947. They had many accomplishments in their 69 years of marriage. Tom graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, and retired from General Motors in 1987. Tom and Margaret raised 3 children. He was a role model as a Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed being involved with his church - St. Martin of Tours, PTA’s, Golf, and Traveling. Once retired they moved to Florida in the Winter months and still enjoyed their Michigan Summers on the little farm they owned in Vicksburg, MI for 58 years. Once they decided to sell the farm, they moved permanently to their home in University Park Country Club and attended St. Patrick’s Church. In 2016 Tom and Margaret moved to Water’s Edge Independent Living, and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Tom and Margaret had three children: Stephen Herman (deceased 2012); Mary Raatz; and Susan (Kevin) Marcy. Seven grandchildren: Gina Grosser (deceased 1973); Clara Raatz (deceased 1983); Emily (Steven) Mullin; Brian (Lauren) Marcy; Kaitlyn (Michael) Winclechter; Grace (Max) Hultquist; and Stephanie Herman. Seven great grandchildren: Ryley, Makennah, and Jayke Mullin; Zara and Frances Marcy; Jackson and Reid Winclechter.
Tom was a very happy man blessed with family, friends, faith in God and love of his country.
