Robert Marshall Nuckols (Bob), born November 26, 1937, in Washington DC, passed away peacefully in the Tidewell Hospice House in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. He was the son of Edgar Marshall Nuckols and Helen Abigail Potter and a beloved brother to William Nuckols and Arthur Bailey.
A proud alumnus of Brown University, Robert became a beacon of entrepreneurship and community leadership in Salem, OH. Throughout his lifetime, he owned and operated several flourishing small businesses, leaving an indelible mark on the local economy.
Robert's deep commitment to the Salem community was exemplified not just by his businesses but by his significant roles in various organizations. He dedicated his time and expertise as the Chairman of the Service Corps of Retired Executives in Salem since 1988. His passion for community wellness and progress was evident in his role as a board director of the Family Recovery Center, Inc., since 1994, and further as its treasurer from 1995. He was an active member of several associations, including the Salem Chamber of Commerce, where he held notable positions such as assistant chairman since 1987, vice president from 1989-1992, and president since 1992. His memberships also extended to the Steel Service Center Institute, Society Manufacturing Engineers, Ink Manufacturers Association, Iron and Steel Institute, Rotary, and Elks.
Robert raised a loving family in Salem, OH, where they spent countless cherished moments together. Later in life, seeking warmer climates and a serene environment, he retired to Burnt Store Marina in Florida, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and golfing.
Robert was predeceased by his loving wife, Darlene Nuckols, earlier this year. Their legacy lives on through their children, Jennifer Metts (Brent Metts), Jeffrey Nuckols (Lisa Barnaby Nuckols) and Shawn Montgomery (Satya Montgomery). Robert was a caring grandfather to Brittany Metts, Jeffrey Metts, Olivia Nuckols, and Jackson Nuckols. His wisdom, wit, and guiding presence will be deeply missed by them and by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we remember Robert, we celebrate a life lived fully, characterized by dedication, hard work, and immense love for his family and community. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
The family plans to have a private memorial service to honor Robert’s life at a later date, and kindly requests that any memorial gifts be directed to Tidewell Hospice Foundation, tidewellfoundation.org, or by mail at 3550 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34239, in honor of Robert’s deep commitment to community well-being.
