Joyce Garrett Hoffman, 80, of Sarasota, and formally of Oklahoma City, OK, and Dublin Ohio, passed away September 9th. She was preceded in death by her husband, of nearly 55 years, William Claude Hoffman.
Born May 18, 1935 in Bemis, TN, she was the youngest of 6 children and the only daughter of the late John and Ester (Hester) Russell Garrett. No matter where Joyce traveled to or lived, when asked where she was from, her answer was always the same; my home town is Bemis, TN. My family is there.
On January 12, 1952, Joyce married William Claude Hoffman and they made their first home in Sainte Genevieve, MO where together they owned and operated several businesses and raised their 4 children. Later they moved to Oklahoma City, OK where they owned and operated a restaurant and several rental properties.
She was also preceded in death by her 5 brothers; Rufus Monroe Garrett, Edward Wilson Garrett, David Glen Garrett, Kenneth Gray Garrett, and Charles Elbert Garrett, all from Jackson, TN; and her eldest grandson, Scot Ashley Worley.
Survivors include her children, Lalanie Lee Hoffman of Oklahoma City, OK, Louana Joyce Jordan and husband Manfred of Bradenton, FL, William Kenneth Hoffman and wife Angela of St. Louis, MO, Garrett Lance Hoffman of Wichita, KS, 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in- laws; Mary Ruth Brown Garrett (Charles) of Jackson, TN., Lillian Hoffman Griffard and Edna Hoffman Coffman of Minnith, MO; brother-in-law, Dennis Edward Hoffman of IL, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 3pm Saturday, Sept. 19th, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5148 17th St., Sarasota, FL 34235.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice.
