A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 21st at 3:00 pm at Cornerstone Church of Lakewood Ranch, 14306 Covenant Way, Bradenton, FL 34202. In lieu of flowers the Brown family asks that donations be made to Tidewell Hospice, 3555 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 35205.
Charles was born May 11, 1948 in Gary, Indiana to Jim and Olga. During his childhood Charley acquired a life-long love of baseball and the Beatles. He graduated from Mundelein High School in 1966. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably from 1970 – 1973.
After being honorably discharged in 1973 he pursued a degree in Journalism at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. While attending college, he met his future wife Barbara Ann Canfield and they married on May 11, 1975 in Fort Collins, CO. His sons Nicholas and Michael were born in 1975 and 1979 respectively.
Charles was a well renowned and highly respected journalist. Immediately after graduating from Colorado State University in 1975 he worked as a newsman for KIIX radio in Fort Collins, CO. From there he worked as a news anchor and reporter for KTWO and KWGN television in Casper, WY and Sun News Network (SNN) in Sarasota, FL, and also served as the editor of the state bureau for the Casper Star Tribune – the largest print newspaper in Wyoming. He also served as the campaign manager for the first successful gubernatorial bid of Wyoming’s twenty-ninth governor Mike Sullivan.
He was a man of deep and abiding faith, regularly serving as an elder in church and serving those in need. Most of all he was a loving husband and father spending time with his children and seven grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his wife Barbara Brown, his two sons, Nicholas Canfield Read Brown and his wife Audrey Read Brown of Los Angeles, CA, Michael James Brown and his wife Brooke of Missoula, MT; his grandchildren Elizabeth, Annabelle, Alexander, Madeline Mae, Jonah, Davin, and Nathanael; and his sister Jennifer (Brown) Moore and his brother Christopher Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Olga.
