He was born in Newport, RI on August 2, 1968, to Velden P. (Jackson) Hangey.
Richard was a passionate stone mason. He was in masonry for 20 years, artfully building homes, colleges, churches, and fireplaces. He was known for his exceptional work and devotion. Later he worked as a mechanic for school buses and then golf carts.
Richard enjoyed taking art classes after work, fishing on the Manatawny, rafting, and camping. He loved to be outdoors on his own and with friends. Richard cared for his mother very much, making sure to bring her flowers every time he stopped by.
Richard is survived by his loving mother, Velden P. (Jackson), wife of the late Floyd J. Hangey of Boyertown, PA; and sister, Colleen Matz. He will be missed by his dear friends, John Yost and Diane. Richard is predeceased by his brother, Michael Matz.
Services are private at the convenience of the family.
