Born in New Orleans, LA on March 28, 1931 to Jeanette and Peter Soules, Sr. She grew up with two brothers, Bill (Ginny) and Peter (Lynette), and one sister, Yvonne Gullo (Sam)
It was on a trip with her sister to San Diego, CA where she met the love of her life Arturo Castillo where he was serving in the US Navy with brother-in-law Sam Gullo. They married in 1954, raised 4 children, living in New Orleans, LA., Pittsburgh, PA., Gulfport MS., finally settling in Bowie Md., in 1971. She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
As a family they enjoyed numerous camping trips throughout the South and East Coast. During her career she worked with various companies including Otis Elevator and Scan Furniture.
One of Janice’s proudest accomplishments was working with a neighbor, to petition the City of Bowie to utilize the property of the closed Buckingham elementary school as a public park in the late 1980’s
After becoming a widow in 1991 Janice joined a local bereavement support group, Phoenix Rising, where she formed and continued wonderful friendships for the past 30 years enjoying luncheons, day trips, and card games.
Janice was happiest when surrounded by family, especially enjoying time with her grandchildren and great grand-children and working in her garden.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, nephew Rod Gullo (Sandy), and companion Fred Witten.
She is survived by her children, Art Castillo (Chris), Rory Castillo (Patty), Yvonne Schroeder (Rolf), Gregg Castillo (Debbie), sister-in-law Lynette Soules, daughter-in-law Trisha Castillo, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons, and 3 nephews.
