Jim was born February 9, 1940, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Floyd J. and Edna (Johnson) Maloney. He graduated from McDonell High School in 1958. He earned an associate's degree in Accounting from Ben Franklin University. He served in the Army as a Specialist-5 for 2 years and continued in the Reserves until 1969.
Jim worked for the U.S. Government for 30 years before retiring from the U.S. Customs Service.
Since his arrival in Bowie in 1966, Jim was very active in his parish of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked on many improvements to the grounds for Sacred Heart such as the Rosary Walkway and Christmas Nativity Scene. During his decades of involvement at Sacred Heart, he served on the Parish Council and led activities like the Annual Labor Day festival. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and local veterans organizations
Jim is survived by his sons James (Donna), Michael (Cathleen), John (Marie) Maloney and daughter Maureen (Ed) Cassidy, his sister-in-law Mary Alice Maloney and brother-in-law Arnie LeDuc, as well as his ex-wife Pat and his companion Arlene Komala. Jim had 10 grandchildren: James (Meghan), Megan, Kelly (Austin), Annie, Tommy, Molly, Riley, Conor, Jack and Trevor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jack (Barb) Maloney, Bernard (Marge) Maloney, Tom Maloney, Clarence (Mary Lou) Maloney and Robert (Cathy); and sisters Janet (Dale) Thompson and Mary Margret LeDuc.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD, 20715; family is receiving guests starting at 10:30am. Inurnment is to follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
