Thomas Clair Wenzel of Buzzards Bay, MA passed away peacefully at Laurentide of Mashpee on September 8, 2021. Tom was born in Springdale, Pennsylvania on August 8, 1928, to the late James and Vera (Wolford) Wenzel. After graduation from high school Tom enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed at Otis Air Force Base in Bourne, MA where he met his wife of 72 years Martha C (Sanford) Wenzel. Tom and Martha went on to have seven children. James (Merrilynn) of Buzzards Bay, Michael (Carol) of E. Sandwich, Rebecca VanBeeck (the late Francois VanBeeck) of Buzzards Bay, Richard of Buzzards Bay, Mark (Ann) of Centerville, Deborah of Centerville, and Bruce (Keri) of Pocasset. Tom also has seventeen grandchildren, and twenty-four great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to all.
Tom and Martha had a wonderful, loving, full life together surrounded by family and friends. Besides their home in Buzzards Bay, they also had a home in North Conway, New Hampshire where they went skiing and made wonderful family memories. After retirement from New England Telephone, Tom and Martha spent their winters in their home in Daytona Beach, Florida. They loved their time spent basking in the sunshine.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Laurentide at Mashpee Commons for the loving care and support during the final years of his life, as well as Beacon Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s Church, Buzzards Bay on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11 AM with a burial to follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom’s name can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
