Major Robert Warren Hernandez, United States Army Retired, of Medford MA, formerly of Bayville N.J. died on December 19, 2013, in Burlington, MA. He was 96 years old. He died of complications of pneumonia.
Major Hernandez was a decorated combat veteran. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on August 16, 1944, during the allied invasion at St. Tropez, France, during Operation Dragoon.
The son of the late Albert Hernandez and Viola Hood Hernandez, Major Hernandez was born in Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen DeGraaff-Hernandez of Toms River, NJ; his son Robert LeRoux Hernández, of Medford, MA, his daughters, Georgette Veeder of Sinking Spring, PA; his daughter Elizabeth Cava of Indianapolis, IN; his daughter-in-law, Elena Pérez Hernández of Medford MA;his son-in-law, Russell Veeder of Sinking Spring; his granddaughters, Camille Clasby, San Diego; and Persephone Hernandez-Vogt, Newton, MA; and his great-grandchildren: Thomas Shane Clasby, Samuel Clasby and Josselyn Clasby, all of San Diego; his brother John Hernandez of L, FL; his sister Joyce Pruett; his step-grandchildren Karla Mojica-Pérez and David Mojica-Pérez; and nephews and nieces.
Major Hernandez was previously married to Adelphine Huart, from whom he was divorced in 1946, and to Georgette LeRoux, who died in 2007.
He will be interred in the National Military Cemetery In Bourne, MA.
