Dick was born in Newton, Massachusetts to Joseph and Margaret McLellan. He was the middle child of 5 siblings and was known to be mischievous and fun loving. Some say he never outgrew this!
Dick attended Northeastern University on the GI bill. He served in the United States Navy stationed on the USS Hyman during the Korean Conflict. Dick was proud to be part of the team at Itek Corporation, Optical Systems Division, which built the camera that took pictures of the surface of the moon for NASA.
As an avid and exceptional golfer, Dick was known by many as a favorite partner on the course. After retirement, Dick worked for the Massachusetts Golf Association. Proud of his Irish heritage, he was often out there donning a scally cap and known to sing a tune or two.
Dick and his brother Tom, married the King sisters, Sally and Betty, and raised their families (Kathleen, Tommy, Colleen and Kelly) around the corner from one another in Newton. Together they celebrated holidays, took ski trips, vacationed in Green Harbor, frequently accompanied by their mothers! The two families' annual rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas, with Dick always being the partridge, will be a lasting legacy. The partridge has returned to his tree.
Dick is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sally (King), son Richard and his wife Susan, of New York City, and daughter Patty Drukker and her husband Dow of Newton, his beloved grandchildren, Casey Blake and her husband Rob of Medford, and Lucas Mosca and his girlfriend Kiel Anderson of Newton. He is also survived by his two great grandsons, Rocco and Daniel Blake.
Additionally, he is survived by two siblings Thomas McLellan and Jean Schiavone, and he is predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Vlass and Peggy Davis. He will be sorely missed by Samantha and Joshua, and
a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
