Mary Catherine Byrne

Mary Catherine (Doody) Byrne, 82, of Bourne, (Mashnee Island) died June 27, 2014. She was the wife of the late James Byrne Sr. Born in New York, New York she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Nealon) Doody. She was a graduate of Columbia University where she pursued a career in nursing at New York Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for 10 years Her skill in nursing led her to become a nursing instructor. After retirement she was a visiting nurse at Falmouth Hospital and in Westchester County in New York. She was summer resident of Mashnee Island on Cape Cod for 25 years and spent her winters back in Bronx, New York. She loved gardening, old movies and 1940's musicals. She is survived by her son James Byrne and Patty Hamburg of CA, her daughter Virginia Dundon of New Jersey, 2 brothers Robert Dowdy of MA and William Doody of Alabama as well as nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be Wednesday July 2nd from 4 to 7 pm at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne. A funeral mass will be held July 3rd at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd. Pocasett. Interment will be private. A special thanks goes to Linda Stevens her good friend and neighbor and the home health aides ans staff from Privatus. Donations in her memory can be made to Hope Hospice.
