Martha Catherine Wenzel

Buzzards Bay - Martha C. Wenzel, 93, of Buzzards Bay, MA passed away peacefully at Laurentide of Mashpee on Saturday, April 9, 2022 surrounded by her family. Martha was born in Buzzards Bay on October 26, 1928 to the late Edward and Genevieve (McCann) Sanford.

After graduation from Bourne High School Martha worked for many years for New England Telephone Co. and was a teaching assistant for Bourne schools while raising her children.

She met the love of her life Thomas Wenzel in 1949, and was married for 72 years until his death in September 2021. They went on to have seven children James (Merrilynn) of Buzzards Bay, Michael (Carol) of East Sandwich, Rebecca Van Beeck (the late Francois Van Beeck) of Buzzards Bay, Richard of Buzzards Bay, Deborah of Centerville, Mark (Ann) of Centerville and Bruce (Keri) of Pocasset. Martha also has seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all.

Martha and Tom shared many years full of happy times between their homes in Buzzards Bay, North Conway, New Hampshire and Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. Growing up on Cape Cod, her love of the beach and sunshine were second to none.

Throughout retirement, Martha's most favorite time was "sitting at the fence", overlooking Daytona Beach out to the ocean, with her many friends and family. She had a passion for flowers, anything purple, chocolate and watching all the Boston sports teams along with the New England Patriots.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Laurentide at Mashpee Commons for the loving care and support during the final years of her life. We would also like to thank Beacon Hospice of Cape Cod for exceptional care, support and love during the final days of life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret's Church, Buzzards Bay on Monday April 25, 2022 at 12 o'clock p.m. with a burial to follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2 o'clock p.m.
