A graduate of Boston English High School, he continued his education at Boston University where he studied Criminal Justice. John proudly served his country and was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal.
After returning, he graduated from the Police Academy and became a Boston Police Officer. He was a member of the Braintree VFW Post. John enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music, especially of the 1950s, and was an avid Boston sports fan.
He was the beloved husband of Marie (Cawley) Foley, loving father of Jack Foley, Leanne Lethin and her husband Paul, Carolyn McGillicuddy and her husband Mark; cherished grandfather of Kristen, Sheila, Sean, Kerry, Meghan and Ryan; brother of Mary Foley, Francis Foley and the late Edward Foley, Jr.
He will be greatly missed and remembered for his exceptional kindness, strength and devotion to his family and friends.
Private services will be held by the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA.
