John L. Ferrari, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Falmouth Hospital surrounded by his family. John was born on February 3, 1925 in South Boston, son of the late Joseph and Adele (Danieli) Ferrari. John leaves his loving wife, Elba Vera (Uguccioni) Ferrari originally from Milford.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Linda and her husband Peter Mueller, his son John and his wife Diane, and his brother Joseph and his wife Olga. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra. He was also the extremely proud grandfather of Jennifer, Ethan, Jack, Jeff and Julia and also relished in hearing about the accomplishments of his many nieces and nephews and their children. He was always being followed by his furry friends Zoe, Loki and Thor and this constant companionship could have been due to the endless supply of dog biscuits he kept in is sweater pockets for them.
John was a graduate of Northeastern University, where he obtained both an undergraduate and MBA, attending school in the evenings for twelve years. He loved learning and used his electronics engineering degree and talent as a manufacturer’s sales representative to start two different companies. He was the president of New England Electronic Sales Corporation and then later of the John Ferrari Company. His success working in the sales field brought him much joy and the friendship of many fellow engineers. He was a familiar face at Raytheon and Lincoln Labs, and enjoyed many a lunch with Dr. An Wang of Wang Laboratories in the 1950’s.
John was a proud veteran of World War II and supported our troops during the landing in Normandy. He took great delight in telling stories about how he never had a good sense of direction and yet he was assigned the role of leading supply trucks all over Europe. He also instilled in his children a somber respect for the price of democracy because he was one of the first troops to visit Dachau.
He lived the early part of his marriage in Medford, and then spent many happy years in Norwood and Dennis. In the summer months, he could often be found bartending at his mother-in-law’s restaurant, Gina’s House or floating in the ocean at our beach with a cigar in his mouth “to keep the horse flies away”. The last five years he called Bourne his home, but no matter where he lived, he always considered himself an old Southie boy at heart.
