Donald R. Provost, of Chestnut Hill, MA, and Bourne, MA passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Virginia M. Provost (Mathieu) for 59 years. He also leaves his daughter Jeanette St. George of Juneau, Alaska
Born in Sturbridge, MA he was the son of the late Robert S. and Blanche (Nichols) Provost.
Donald worked in the MIT Miniature Components Laboratory, in Cambridge MA, where he did testing for the space program. He also worked at Richard Wolf Medical Instruments in Rosemont, Illinois, in sales. He served as chairman for the town of Bourne Committees.
He enjoyed all sports, but his passion was baseball. He played on his high school team, an American Legion team and in a senior league. He was Vice President of the Bourne Braves Cape League for many years, and enjoyed seeing some of the players making it to the major league. He was especially proud of the Bourne Braves in 2009 when they won the Cape Cod Championship. He helped with the design of the new baseball field and the lighting system for the new field, and later designed the lighting system for a town field. He always liked having a project and to and see it to completion. Often when he was watching a game on TV, he would disagree with a coach’s decision and voice his opinion of what he would have done. Don was very social and could talk to anyone about various subjects, he was knowledgeable about many things. He will be greatly missed.
Donald is predeceased by his brother, Robert N. Provost. In addition to his wife and daughter, Donald also leaves behind his nieces; Alice Baron of Rochdale, MA, Christine Provost of Bristol RI, Elizabeth Rynda (Douglas) of Portsmouth, RI.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne. Visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to service. Interment with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fr.
