Growing up in the mid-west, serving for his country in Vietnam, getting a college degree and settling on Cape Cod, he soon met the love of his life, her four children and the family dog. He was a special kind of caring and compassionate man to marry a single mother of four children.
Today, those same four children he helped turn into successful, accomplished adults, can tell you “Thank God for Dan”. He had his own intellectual way of parenting, but was always patient and kind. He took pride in being a father and seeing his kids succeed, much credit due to him.
After marrying in 1983, there was never a Nancy without Dan. As her real estate business was growing, he got his real estate license too. Always her wingman. She might of been Maverick, but he was Goose. And everyone liked Goose.
He had an affinity of Volkswagen Bugs, loved being on his exercise bike and put Larry Bird to shame in his gym shorts, enjoyed playing with the new Christmas toys more than the children, and had an addiction to Slush Puppies and candy Nips.
Dan leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Nancy Clayton of Sandwich, MA, his four children, Kristin Fraser of Mashpee, MA, Debbie Christianson of Amherst, NH, Matthew Damore of Fresno, CA, and Michele Damore of Cortez, CO, his twelve grandchildren, his brother Lawrence Clayton of Boalsburg, PA and a large extended family.
Dan will be buried at Otis National Cemetery with military honors during a private ceremony.
