Thomas Rachubinski

Thomas E. (Tom) Rachubinski, 66, passed away peacefully at home on July 19th in Boulder from a rare peritoneal cancer. Tom was born on March 26, 1955 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to William and Dolores Rachubinski. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1973 and University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in 1977. Tom and Jean were married at St. Mary’s Ridge, Cashton, WI. on May 5, 1979.

Tom worked for several general contractors in the area, mainly Wyatt Construction as a Project Manager. Over a decades-long career, he completed numerous commercial and industrial projects in the Boulder area. He was proud to have developed a commercial building in Wisconsin with family.

A lifelong athlete, Tom ran track and cross country at Aquinas and UW-La Crosse. In addition to holding numerous school records including a 4:19 mile and first place finishes in scores of races, his major running accomplishment was qualifying for 1984 Olympic Trials in the marathon.

Tom embraced the Colorado lifestyle and loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed skiing, rollerblading, hiking, running, biking, swimming, traveling, walks on a beach, golf and frisbee golf. Tom loved sports, sports trivia and was a fan of the Broncos, Rockies and CU Buffs. Tom treasured his time spent at the ‘land’ in Wisconsin. He enjoyed traveling to different islands in the Caribbean and exploring National Parks. He was instrumental in planning and setting up the first disc golf course at Harlow Platts Park through a grant from the City of Boulder.

Tom was ambitious, held a strong work ethic and cared deeply for those around him. A visionary in many ways, Tom was always looking out for his team, coworkers, friends and family. He will be remembered for his humorous one-liners and adventurous spirit.

Tom is survived by his wife, Jean and son Chad Rachubinski of Dallas, Texas. Brothers Michael Rachubinski of Parker, CO. Bill Rachubinski (Julie) of Appleton, WI., Sisters – Mary McShane (Jim) of Tallahassee FL., Ann Goetsch (Scott) of East Troy, WI., Rita Joern of Rochester, NY., Karen Rachubinski of East Troy, WI., Barb Johnson - twin (Dale) of La Crosse, WI., Joan Clements (Steve) of Stoddard, WI., Sue Beilke of Vernon Hills, IL., Donna Friess (Jeff) of Waukesha, WI., and Laura Smikla (Greg) of Woodbury, MN. and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Dolores (Deufel) Rachubinski. Tom will be dearly missed by lifelong friends Mike Keaveny, Jeff Hundt, Joe Jungen and many other close friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm July 27th at Crist Mortuary. A Rosary will be held from 7:30-8:00.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am July 28th at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Boulder, CO with a lunch to follow.
