Murray Melinda Meetze, 36, was born October 14, 1986 in Charleston, SC. Murray spent her childhood and school-age years in Columbia, SC, and passed away June 21, 2023 in Boulder, Colorado, due to complications secondary to multitudinous medical illnesses. She is survived by her parents, Paula and David Meetze, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Murray was predeceased by her grandparents, Lucile and Junnie Meetze, and Carol and Cliff LaBombard, her uncles Johnny Ramsey and Monroe Meetze, and cousins Patty Meetze and Jason Brown.
Murray loved to read and cherished her time with her family, friends, and pets, notably Pollyanna and Matilda. Murray attended Irmo High School where she played Varsity Tennis. She later studied abroad in Tokyo, Japan and graduated from Wofford College with honors.
She worked for the University of South Carolina for numerous years before forging a path westward. Murray was passionate and always tried to speak up to keep injustices from repeating for others. She was at her happiest during intellectual conversations with her favorite partners that she met in Boulder, Colorado. She loved nutrition, writing, travel, nature, and hiking and enjoyed spending time in a hammock, while reading and listening to folk music. She could often be found outdoors and loved capturing images with her camera.
Murray loved to help others. She contributed to the Uniquely Striped web-site writing about Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) to raise awareness and enrolled in clinical trials. While able, Murray assisted with the homeless serving coffee and folding blankets.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023 with visitation one hour prior, 10:00 a.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 1541 Lake Murray Blvd., Columbia, SC 29212.
