Matthew Reid Rheingold, a real-estate mogul and entrepreneur, died in Boulder, Colo., on Feb. 16, 2023, at the age of 49. His holdings spanned multiple properties and commercial ventures, but the legacy of which he was most proud was his children Hunter, Chase, and Violet. His fondest memories included cultivating Hunter’s love of animals, Chase’s athletic skills, and Violet’s equestrianism.
Other survivors include his former spouse, Ashley, of Boulder; mother Suzanne Reid of Cotuit, Mass.; father and stepmother Dr. Laurence and Linda Rheingold of Chestnut Hill, Mass.; siblings David, Curtis, Mariel, and Grant; uncles Kamran Nafissi, Jack Schiff, and Tom Schiff; cousins Kyan and Ari Nafissi, Jamie Migueles (Chris), John Schiff, Maggie Gieseke (Karl), Charlie Schiff (Christine), Lauren Fernandez (Frank), Sally Park (David), and Julia Schiff; and friends too numerous to list.
Born on New Year’s Day 1974, Matt grew up on Cape Cod, graduating from Barnstable High School in 1993. He subsequently earned a psychology degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and went on to become a realtor who eventually discovered he liked buying and developing properties more than selling them.
With his longtime friend, Erik Zens, he founded the business Zengold’s, and with his brother David the real-estate partnership DMRR LLC. While Matt called Boulder home for more than two decades, he traveled all over the world including to Alaska, Israel, China, and India. His favorite place may have been the Hawaiian island of Kauai, where he brought his family for years during school vacations.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, with a service and interment to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. A service will be scheduled at a later date on Cape Cod for his many loved ones there.
Peace.
