Glenna Jo Thurmes, 69, of Boulder, Colorado, died September 24, 2024. Glenna was born in Sacramento, California on February 3, 1955 to James and Mary Anne Whiteford. The child of a Navy officer, she grew up in Hawaii, Chicago, and Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated from George Washington University in 1977 with a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, and went on to earn an MBA from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1986.
While attending the University of Colorado, Glenna met her future husband, Bill, whom she married on July 11, 1987. She traveled for her work during her tenure at Grant Thornton, teaching clients how to use the company’s accounting software on their newfangled computers. She retired from her career in 1996 to take care of her children.
Glenna was an avid gardener, cultivating an extensive garden over the course of decades in conjunction with her husband. She dedicated much of her life to volunteering, both at her children’s schools and with the Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, where she often served as a project crew leader. She was passionate about preserving the environment, cultivating native plants in the garden and participating in citizen scientist projects to study native bees.
Those who knew Glenna knew her as an exceptionally kind and intelligent woman, dedicated to helping and caring for others. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, and brother Scott, and is survived by her children, Anya and Nicholas, her brother Martin, and her siblings Bethany and Alex and their children and grandchildren.

A memorial service for Glenna will be held Monday, October 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301.
