Gwendolyn Lenore Wilson. He graduated from Central High School, and then attended Omaha
University, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, before joining the Army.
During his military years Gene earned a Certificate as a Surgical Technician which led to his
interest in surgical supplies. Upon his discharge from the military Gene worked for George
Berbert and Sons, a medical supply company in Denver, as a salesman. After many years, he
and his two partners started their own company, Denver Surgical Supply. Gene joined the
Masonic Oriental Lodge and had the honor of being Worshipful Master in 1976.
Gene married Adrea Dee Simmons in 1960, and they lived in Boulder with their three daughters,
Shawn Andersen, Erie, CO, Jana Andersen (Russell Dhooge), Broomfield, CO and Brin Bassetti
(Mark), Westminster, CO. Gene and Adrea moved to Erie, CO in 2015.
Gene retired in 1995 and enjoyed gardening, baking, and helping his family. He was an active
participant in Silver Sneakers. Gene was on the board for the Boulder Seniors Foundation and
found great satisfaction in assisting the senior population in Boulder.
During Gene’s life he enjoyed many activities. He played hockey and tennis and skied (until he
broke his leg). He liked to hike the Mesa Trail in Boulder; usually with a daughter on his back
and a dog next to him. His pets (Tawny, Helga, Tommi, Buddy, Jobi and Kati) were part of his
family, and he even had a “visiting” dog, Dilly and a “borrow-a-dog”, Manny, and many furry
grandchildren. Once Gene moved to Erie he would spend hours looking at the whole range of
mountains and watching the hot air balloons launch and fly.
Gene’s family was the most important thing to him. He was always available to help or just to
answer questions and give advice. Gene also loved to tell stories about his past and usually
had a joke to share. Gene also believed in being helpful to his friends and neighbors and
greatly enjoyed socializing with them.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Patrica Ward and Joan Massey and his
brother-in-law, Russell Ward.
