Carol Joyce Distad Peterson

Carol J. Peterson, December 25, 1924 - January 20, 2014, Carol J.Peterson, 89, of Boulder, CO passed away in peace on January 20. Carol was born on December 25, 1924 to Andrew and Carrie Distad in Watertown, SD. She graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. She married her wonderful husband, Palmer Peterson, on October 28, 1945, continuing their life spending time

golfing and traveling through his deployment with the Army. They lived in South Korea, Japan, West Germany,

and too many stateside Army posts to count. She was a magnificent homemaker, taking care of her three sons, Paul, Scott, and Kurt. She was an avid sports fan, had a passion for geneology, and was the incontestable gatherer of families for reunions, both in the U.S. and her heritage country, Norway. After her husband's passing she retired to Elizabethtown, KY where she served many years as the mayor's assistant and wrote a

weekly column in the local paper. She is preceded in death by her husband, Palmer Peterson, her parents,

and 8 siblings. She is survived by her three sons, Paul (Kathy) Peterson, Scott (Karen) Peterson, and Kurt (Dede) Peterson, grandchildren Kari Peterson, Lara (Nate) Jebson, Ezra Leo DePree, and Oliver Peterson, and six great-grandchildren. The family gives special thanks to Carol's niece, Synneve (Dr. Charles) Jones of Boulder and nephew, Joel (Barb) Sigdestad of Littleton, CO who rendered invaluable medical and personal assistance during her last stages of life. A special thanks as well to the two hospice providers, Home Care of the Rockies and TRU Community Care, who helped the family and Carol in one of their hardest experiences in

life. A memorial service for Carol will be held this Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 3:30 PM at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 3485 Stanford Ct., Boulder, CO, 80305, officiating Pastor Sara Wirth.
