Samuel White, age 81 died peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from natural causes. Samuel was born January 10, 1942 to Leon White and Corene Levingston in Shreveport Louisiana. He was never married and did not have any children. Samuel was an exceptional student. He went on to Southern University A&M in Louisiana and later attended Seattle Colleges. Samuel loved to learn and this was evidenced by his fervor for debate, the multiple books and journals he read, and his impeccable memory and recall of random yet critically important facts.
Samuel was drafted into the United States Army May 24, 1967. He completed orientation in Cam Rhan Bay and was dispatched to the Fourth Infantry Division Replacement Company located in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam, near the town of Pleiku. He was assigned to the Co. D, 169th Armor of the Fourth Infantry Division and served in its medical platoon as a Medical Aidman. He was honorably discharged with full-service connection. He received the following honors for his service and bravery: Vietnam Service Medal – two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal Expert (Rifle). He later was a member of the Washington National Guard and had a long career as a Longshoreman.
Samuel was surrounded by the love of family. His parents Leon White and Corene Levingston and his brother Frank White preceded Samuel in death. He is survived by his brother, Isaac John White of Seattle; sisters, Naomi Wells of Shreveport, LA, Ruth Lomax of Seattle; his five nieces Joycelyn Thomas, Frankie White, Felicia Johnson, Margaret Wilson, and Malitka White; nephew Paul Williams; nine great nieces and nephews; seven great-great-nieces and a host of relatives and friends.
Graveside Services Evergreen-Washelli Abbey View Cemetery, Brier, WA at 1 PM on Saturday, August 19th. A repast will be held directly after service and includes a meal.
