Suey Sin "Bobby" Mah, age 94, of Lynn, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. Born in Taishan, China in 1929, Bobby was the son of the late Sei Yin and Mee Ying (Kong) Ma. He immigrated to the United States in 1951 at the age of 22. For over 44 years, Bobby, as the chef, co-owned and operated the Tai Hong Restaurant on Lynnfield Street in Lynn together with his brother Suey Hung “Johnny Yee” Mah and their families. Prior to that, he worked at his brother's business, Johnny's Laundry in Lynn.
Bobby enjoyed a hobby in photography, which was inspired in his youth while working in his brother-in-law's photoshop in China. A talented chef, Bobby’s culinary creations were the highlight of family meals and gatherings. Bobby’s passion was gardening. He was known for his bountiful vegetables, especially his many varieties of tomatoes and beans. In his retirement, Bobby enjoyed doting over his four grandchildren nearly every day. As their devoted Gong Gong, he drove them to and from preschool, dance class, and sports practices and games and with his wife, cared for them after school every day.
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Lai Yung (Lee) Mah; two loving daughters, Brenda Ligh and her husband Donald of Peabody, and Nancy Mah of Peabody. He was the devoted Gong Gong to his four adoring grandchildren, Jack and Thomas Ligh of Peabody, and Emily and Ryan Yuu of Peabody. Bobby was the brother of the late Suey Hung "Johnny Yee" Mah, the late Wai Lin (Mah) Tam, Wai Sen (Mah) Lee of Brookline, Wai Jane (Mah) Wong of Fresno, CA, and Wai Chai (Mah) Chin of Quincy. He is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation for Suey Sin on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at J.S. Waterman Langone Chapel, 580 Commercial St, Boston, Massachusetts. COMPLIMENTARY VALET PARKING ATTENDANTS AT FRONT DOOR. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, 580 Commercial St, Boston, Massachusetts. Burial to follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts.
