a government scholarship to be among the first class of Chinese students sent to study science, engineering or mathematics in the United States. The motto of the program was "rebuild China," as the country had been devastated by the war. He enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1945 in the study of electrical engineering, earning his B.S. and M.S. degrees
in 1950. Given political turmoil in China, he was among the students who remained in the U.S. after graduation. The highlight of his career was his founding of the successful niche contract
manufacturer known as Advanced Electronics, Inc. (AEI), in Boston. At its height, AEI employed several hundred engineers, production workers, and support staff, serving as a subcontractor to many of New England's best-known technology companies. AEI earned multiple awards as a successful local small business enterprise, providing employment opportunities in the tech sector for the local community. He gave generously to charitable organizations in both China and
the Boston Chinese community. He is the loving father of Cedric Chao and his wife Margaret Fujioka of Piedmont California, and Yvonne Chao Posa and her husband Sandy Posa of Wayland, MA. Beloved grandfather of Stephen and Caroline Chao and Michael, Andrea, and Maria Posa. He is predeceased by his sister, Kuo Feng Zhao. The family will receive visitors in the Boston Harborside Home, 580 Commercial St., Boston on Friday, January 2nd from 4-8pm with a 7pm reflection of Stanley’s life by his son, and again on Saturday, January 3rd from 1-5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stanley’s name may be made to: South Cove Manor at Quincy Point, 288 Washington St., Quincy, MA 02169.
