Spencer was born in Boston on April 25, 1995. Awarded a full scholarship from the Posse Foundation, he graduated from Denison University in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Sociology. Spencer continued work at Fenway Park and interned at Fenway Community Development Center after completing the Design Discovery Program at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. He was involved in many community organizations, including Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and the Boston Knights Chinese Athletic Club.
Spencer was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was an avid traveler, never missing an opportunity to visit a new place. His travels included visits to Costa Rica, Mexico, France, and Australia, among others. Spencer enjoyed nature and was thoughtful about the environment, especially after his semester abroad in Iceland, where he lived and worked in a unique eco-village focused on sustainable practices. He could often be found hiking, biking, or playing sports. Regardless of the activity, he was always happy to be surrounded by friends or family, and offered a warm, welcoming spirit to anyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Services will be held at Boston Harborside Home of JS Waterman & Son-Waring-Langone. A wake is scheduled for the evening of Sunday, November 18th, from 4PM-9PM. The funeral will be the morning of Monday, November 19th, beginning at 9AM, immediately followed by a memorial service at China Pearl Restaurant in Boston. Contributions in Spencer’s memory can be made to The Posse Foundation.
