Scott Michael Hunter (affectionately known as “Scottie So Hottie”) passed away on December 3, 2024, likely due to a broken heart from being a lifelong Jets fan. Apart from his boyishly handsome looks, he was particularly well-established in the eye care industry thanks to his illustrious career, unwavering work ethic, and brilliant mind. While he would never admit to this publicly, the ultimate compliment was being called a “nerd” by a fellow nerd.
Scott was exceptional in every role he took on: a devoted husband, fun-loving uncle, loyal friend, dedicated colleague, altruistic humanitarian, and even as the “spare human” to his dog, Milou. He once even won an ax-throwing contest on his first day of ever throwing an ax. Scott’s sheer grit and determination allowed him to excel at everything, except golf. He was wildly passionate about self-improvement, learning, and absorbing every bit of information his brain could process. Scott wanted the present version of himself to be better than yesterday’s version. His mastery of quick-witted humor was audibly evident by the infectious laughter shared by his family, friends, and colleagues.
For Scott, “family” was not defined by your shared DNA but by the people with whom you chose to surround yourself. At first glance, he was oftentimes perceived as intense, serious, and cerebral (all of which were true). But he was also deeply caring, loyal to his tribe, curiously adventurous, and warmly affectionate (at least with his wife).
Scott and Wai Ming spent six and a half years being married and traversing the globe hand-in-hand. Their escapades took them to over 30 countries, some of which had him questioning his life/wife choices at times. He was always a good sport though and embraced each new experience, no matter how bizarre.
Simply put, Scott was inspirational. He was phenomenal. And his legacy is a gift.
We will never be ready to say farewell. However, we can honor Scott’s memory with a Celebration of Life service. We invite everyone to come together to share stories and memories of Scott, honoring the vibrant spirit he embodied. We encourage attendees to wear comfortable clothing in colors that express their personal style, moving away from traditional dark attire. Scott lived life boldly and intentionally, and we hope this gathering reflects that spirit.
Scott Michael Hunter is survived by his wife, Wai Ming Siu; his father, Charles Hunter; mother, Michele Martino; and a large and loving family.
