Mary Edith Hill Barron, 94, died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at her home in Booneville. She was born October 31, 1917, in Prentiss County, to James Robert and Fannie Pugh Logan Hill. She was a descendant of James Jackson and Lucy Floyd Hill, Prentiss County pioneers from Anson County, NC. In December 1945, she married Harmon l. Barron, who preceded her in death in November 1999.
A graduate of Wheeler high School and the University of Mississippi, she taught hundreds and hundreds of fifth graders during her 40-year teaching career in Booneville. On Sundays, she continued to show her love for children by teaching first graders in Sunday School at the First United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member.
She had a deep inner strength that carried her through caring for a disabled husband and enduring a challenging disease. In her later years, she was known for her beautiful smile, her joyful nature, and her uninhibited love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. at Meadow Creek United Methodist Church with Bro. Bobby Hankins officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Rick) Bolton of Fresno, CA and Susan Barron of Booneville; two grandsons, Chris Bolton of Fresno, CA and Jason Bolton of Oakland, CA; four nieces and nephews, Martha Ruth Hill Whatley of Columbus, GA, David Hill of Baldwyn, Katie Jo Lindley of Booneville and Jim Hill of Booneville; two sisters-in-law, Zana Hill and Lee Barron, both of Booneville; and a special caregiver, Alma Vuncannon.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Maurine (Howard) Duncan; and two brothers, Maurice L. Hill and James M. (Betty Jo) Hill.
Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until service time Monday at the church.
