At the age of 18, she traveled with her family post-war Japan where she met and married a young airman William Harold Hatfield from Booneville, MS. In the subsequent 69 years of marriage, she followed her Air Force pilot around the world to Japan, Guam and numerous places in the states. Elaine was known for her infectious laugh, great singing voice and charitable work. She was a chef, homemaker, tutor, educator, artist, seamstress, accounting clerk and stenographer all white creating a home for her family.
At the age of 55 she returned to college and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Masters in Speech Pathology. She was a straight A student and a favorite of Ole Miss chancellor Dr. Robert Kayat. She went to work for the Iuka School District and retired at the age of 70. She attended Booneville First Baptist Church, she also loved sewing, golf and was very devoted to her family.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the Corinth National Cemetery with Mrs. LuAnne Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Corinth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday August, 9, 2023 at McMillan Funeral Home.
She is survived by her three sons, Steven Hatfield (Elida), Mark Hatfield (Karen) and Billy Hatfield; three grandsons, two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Harold Hatfield; her parents, David and Gertrude Foster; two brothers, David Foster and Jimmy Foster and one sister Betty Vaughn.
