The family of Sandra Salazar Chavez, of Jamul, California, is saddened to announce that on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Sandra passed away surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 68. Sandra will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, Silverio; children, Nicholas (Nico) Chavez and David Chavez; sisters, Nora Goss, and Martha Zeno; and niece and nephews, Maritza Antunez, Arturo Zarazua and Javier Antunez.
Sandra was born in Calexico, California, to Frank and Jesus Alicia Salazar and was a graduate of Calexico High School. Sandra was the youngest of three girls and joked that her older sisters, Nora, and Martha, wore their mom out so she had an easier childhood. After high school, Sandra married the love of her life, Silverio, and together for over 48 years, they created a beautiful life and family. Celebrations were always held at Silverio and Sandra's house because of their love to cook and spend time with friends and family. Sandra's Mexican rice could not be outdone by anyone. Sandra's friends always became family and together they traveled, made tamales, danced, laughed, cried, and celebrated birthdays and milestones, often over several bottles of her favorite champagne. One of her favorite places to travel to read and relax surrounded by family and friends was Cancun, Mexico. It was her happy place.
Sandra wore many hats but the role she was most proud of was that of mom to her two sons, Nico, and David. Sandra always said she lost years of sleep worrying about them over her lifetime, however they truly were her sunshine and constant source of love and laughter. Sandra was also mom to her niece and nephews, Maritza, Arturo, and Javier. From the day they were born she treated them as her own. Sandra was also mom to every homeless or stray cat/dog that walked in her path, sometimes to Silverio's chagrin, as they would have to drive across the state with all the fur babies after every move early in life. Sandra always had an open heart for anyone and any animal.
Sandra was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile was so stunning it would light up the whole room. She was kind, generous, very witty, and so, so, so much fun! To the end she was strong, brave, and concerned about the loves of her life, Silverio, Nico, David and her fur babies, Asher, Gordito, and Aurora. (Do not worry Sandra, we will make sure they get their chicken and daily walk.)
Sandra was the heart and soul of the family, and her presence will be greatly missed. Sandra's spirit will continue on in those who were blessed and very fortunate to know and love her.
